| Description | The engine in a modern car has to fulfill severe design criteria, amongst others a low
fuel consumption and a low exhaust emission. One of the consequences of this is the
presence of high torsional vibrations in the drive train.
These vibrations can be dampened with a dual mass flywheel, in this case called a
abcdefgmechanical torsion damper (MTD).
The MTD should be produced at a targeted price with as low as possible a weight.
This is the moment where the application of plastics play a favourable role.
The requirements on the plastic were severe:
- high stiffness at high temperatures
- low creep
- high resistance against fatigue loadings
- resistant against the applied greases
- low wear
- reasonable price
The only plastic fullfilling all these requirements is:
