Stanyl® TW200F8 - PA46-GF40 |
| Description | Tough, cost effective alternative to metals
When faced with the challenge of designing a plastic precision starter gear, Delco Remy America (DRA), the premier builder of starter motors in the world, turned to DSM for a material solution. Starter motors were invented over 100 years ago as a way to convert the stored energy in the battery to thousands of watts of mechanical power to rotate an engine. Perfecting the way we start our engines will offer a clean fast starter that minimizes exhaust emissions and reduces noise.
DRA needed a material that exhibited high strength at high temperatures. The starters are mounted near the exhaust manifolds and are attached to the engines. Temperature ranges of -40ºC to 130ºC meant a unique material was needed. Stanyl TW200F8 was chosen due to its high strengths at high temperature capabilities. In addition, Stanyl offered several advantages over the use of steel such as lower weight and corrosion resistance. Today, DRA uses Stanyl in all of their starter motors produced worldwide. |
